The Aberdeen Union Street Mile is back this year as a forerunner to the Celebrate Aberdeen Weekend on Saturday, August 24, with race organisers anticipating a successful event. The marvellous spectacle sets the stage for the fantastic Celebrate Aberdeen Parade which brings the strong sense of community and all that’s good about Aberdeen to the fore. All of this is made possible with the help of local companies.

Entries for the 2019 races are being snapped up so get your entries in ASAP to avoid disappointment. This year the North East of Scotland Athletics Partnership are organising the mile races. Entries are on Entry central at

Hopefully the 2019 event will be the most popular yet with runners of all ages taking on the unique and popular challenge. The course is accurately measured by Jones Counter and certified, the race will have a licence from scottishathletics

The Race entries are open to Primary 6 and 7 pupils, Secondary 1 - 4 pupils, Seniors and Veteran Runners ( includes secondary 5 and upwards).

Over 1000 speedy contestants have darted through Aberdeen’s most famous street since the race started.

This may be one of the Granite City’s shortest road races, but completing the one mile dash is no mean feat.  Seniors and Veteran Men should be able to complete the mile in 10 Minutes, Females should be able to complete in 11 Minutes.

Entrants will start the race at the Music Hall, then head up Union Street towards the Holburn Street Junction and then turn back to finish at the Castlegate, where participants can expect to be greeted by thundering cheers from eager onlookers. Good luck to all runners who will be flying around the mile route in a bid to scoop the top spot. Make sure your there to soak up the electric atmosphere and cheer on our one mile dashers as they sprint through Union Street.
