Post-Race Report:
On a perfect day for running, 50 runners set out on the 33rd Cairn William hill race, which takes in Pitfichie hill first followed by a climb up the zig zags to the high point of Cairn William.  Each year the heather grows deeper and the course is not getting any faster!

The mens race was won by Kyle Greig of Metro in a time of 48.09.  He was followed by last years winner Sam Alexander of Westerlands in 48:49 with Andy King completing the top 3 with 49:59.  Cosmic Kev Harper was the first V40 in 55:51 followed closely by Jamie Ross of Deeside Runners in 56:08, while Anthony Herbert was 3rd V40 in 58:46.  In the V50 category Gerald Angus from Keith and District was first in 1:01:47, which Cosmics’ Phil Kammer was first Male 60 in 1:06:32.

Veronique Oldham of Cosmics won the ladies race for the 3rd year running by a comfortable margin in a time of 1:00:04 with visitor Nina Walkingshaw from Howgill in 2nd place in 1:06:53.  Deeside’s Marie Entwistle was 3rd in 1:07:29.  Jane Oliver closed the women’s field as the first (and only!) F60 runner in 1:30:30.  A bit of a male dominated race with only 8 ladies racing out of 50, must try harder to attract more next year!

5 Juniors took part in the U12s race with Ethan Wallis winning the boys race and Esme Walkingshaw the girls race in 14:03 and 14:39 respectively.

The perfect weather saw many runners staying around to socialise after the race with most people professing to have enjoyed it despite the knee deep heather descents…!
